                                                                WILCO
& VERY SPECIAL GUESTS: To be announced later (Shhhh! It's a secret! But, something Really Big!)

Show @ 9:00PM  Tickets $25.00 Advance $25.00 At the door. Available at STAR Tickets 8/3/02.

Most of you know the story of WILCO, one-half to four-fifths of alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo rally around songwriter Jeff Tweedy and form what many critics hailed as the Best Group in America, with the album AM. Not lingering long around the alt-"country" moniker, WILCO quickly shifted gears on their second album, Being There, where they paid homage to all their hard rock and pop music influences without pandering to commercial copy-cat cuts or cutesy gimmicks. The third album, Summerteeth, gave us just an idea of how far these guys could go, with a complex, richly textured and layered series of songs and music that was hard to define or label. Much like The Beatles in the Sixties, every album release from WILCO has shot off in a new direction, far above and beyond its last work and our expectations. As WILCO gathered to record its fourth and latest album, they were joined by photographer and first-time filmmaker/documentarian  Sam Jones who recorded the entire proceedings. The resulting movie, I Am Trying To Break Your Heart, will debut this week on both coasts and in Chicago, and will arrive in Dallas in early September. The movie, intended to simply chronicle the making of an album, instead will report on the insidious dealings of todays record companies and the results that the past years of record label consolidations have on talented groups and their works. In the course of recording the album and making the film, WILCO parted with long-time drummer Ken Coomer, was dropped by their label, Reprise (part of AOLTimeWarner), picked up by Nonesuch Records (a WEA branch that is distributed by Warner - get the irony ?!!!) and then, finally and some say unfortunately, parting ways with multi-instrumentalist and lead guitarist  Jay Bennett. The album, Yankee Foxtrot Hotel, landed on most every critics top-ten-best lists of 2001. Released in September, the album quickly sold more copies in its first week than any of their previous albums had sold - total! This show is guaranteed to sell out FAST. Tickets go on sale this Saturday, August 3 at Star Tickets, and will be available next week at CD World and on WILCOs WebSite.
