The BIGGEST BANG - Stones in Austin
What better way to kick off Rock n Reel 2012 than with the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World ??? From August 2005 to August 2007, The Rolling Stones embarked on the Bigger Bang Tour, what many are afraid could have been their last major tour. This year we are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the formation of this great band, and whispers of a celebratory tour suggest they may play a few shows in only a few select cities. While waiting for them to decide, we'd love to share with you Disc 1 of the Stones 4-DVD Box Set of the Biggest Bang. Disc 1 features the Rolling Stones LIVE in Austin Texas at Zilker Park, the site of the annual Austin City Limits Fest. Nearly 80,000 Texans were treated to what surely was one of their greatest concert experiences. Better than a front row seat, this is a beautifully shot - edited - recorded concert that is truly the "next best thing to being there" ... nay I say, even better. "It's only Rock and Roll ... but I LOVE it!"

UNDER AFRICAN SKIES
Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the ground-breaking 1986 album Graceland by Paul Simon, this documentary of Paul Simon's Graceland Journey, Under African Skies, tells the story of both the struggles of the people of South Africa during those final years of apartheid and the difficulty Paul Simon had with the various authorities and other people's perceptions of his intentions and motivations. The result was one of the greatest albums of all time and opened the floodgates for other "World Music" influences in popular music and Rock and Roll in particular. Lots of great songs, great music, great musicians and a great story.

BEATLES DOUBLE-FEATURE !!!
MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR/YELLOW SUBMARINE
In September 1967 The Beatles embarked on making their third film, this time conceived and directed entirely by themselves. Based on a loose unscripted narrative, in the spirit of the experimental mood of the time, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (53 minutes run time) presented 6 new songs. Now, 45 years on, the virtually forgotten film has been fully restored and is being presented properly for the first time.
Also digitally restored and re-released this year we will present as the second half of tonight's Double-Feature YELLOW SUBMARINE, The Beatles 1968 animated feature film. Based loosely upon a song by The Beatles, YELLOW SUBMARINE (89 minutes run time) is a fantastic tale brimming with Peace, Love and Hope, propelled by Beatles songs. YELLOW SUBMARINE was instantly recognized as a landmark achievement, revolutionizing a genre by integrating the freestyle approach of the era with innovative animation techniques.

In May of 2011, Neil Young drove a 1956 Crown Victoria from his idyllic hometown of Omemee, Ontario to downtown Toronto's Massey Hall, for the last two nights of his Solo World Tour. Along the drive, Young recounted insightful, introspective stories from his youth to Jonathan Demme, longtime fan and collaborator - who captured these tales and wove them together with Young's mesmerizing music including songs from the 2010 album Le Noise, along with such classics as Ohio, Hey Hey My My, and I Believe In You.

Martin Scorcese's 1978 documentary film of The Band's final concert, a Thanksgiving night extravaganza at Bill Graham's Winterland Ballroom, included many of The Band's musical friends and influences. The evening actually began with a complete Thanksgiving Dinner for all the ticket holders. Three sumptuous buffets - one Traditional Turkey with all the trimmings, one Seafood based, and one Vegetarian - were served while an orchestra played and professional dancers waltzed on the dance floor. The concert that followed was one of the most star-studded events in Rock and Roll History. Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, and the at-the-time very reclusive Bob Dylan were but some of the big names that performed in honor of one of the truly great acts in the genre ... if not the entire American Music Canon.

CELEBRATION DAY
On December 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London's O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and founder of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegun. On this night, Led Zeppelin's founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the young son of the late John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalog. Though 20 million people applied for tickets thru a worldwide lottery, the bands' first show in 27 years was seen only by the 16,000 winning ticket holders. Tonight is your chance to see the Magic!
